Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care. Nutritional Therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine and is relevant for individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those looking to enhance their health and wellbeing.
Some people simply want to check that they are on the right track with regard to healthy eating. Others may want to lose weight or get help with their symptoms.
Nutritional Therapists recognise that each person is an individual with unique requirements and take time to define personalised nutrition plans rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
WHAT CAN NUTRITION HELP WITH?
Nutrition and lifestyle approaches to healthcare have been shown to support the health of all the major systems of the body (skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, excretory, endocrine, immune, reproductive and integumentary [skin, hair, nails]). Typical priorities in nutritional therapy consultations include support to achieve optimum energy levels, healthy blood sugar balance, emotional and psychological wellbeing, optimum gastrointestinal health and tolerance to a broad range of food groups.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Nutritional Therapy is not as simple as being told what to eat and when; what foods are good for you and what to do if you want to lose weight. It is rather an 'investigation' into a person’s physiological, biochemical and genetic make-up to identify any imbalance that may have contributed to the symptoms or a specific health condition with the aim to optimise or correct an imbalance with specific micro- and macronutrients, phytochemicals, dietary compounds or therapeutic and functional foods.
I use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances in order to understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows me to work with my clients to address nutritional imbalance and help support the body towards maintaining health.
I consider each individual to be unique and recommend personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. I never recommend Nutritional Therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional. I will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.
Before you meet with me, you will be asked to complete a health and nutrition questionnaire. It is important that the completed questionnaire is returned in sufficient time before the consultation date so that the necessary research can be undertaken. An initial consultation typically lasts 60 minutes, and in this time you will be asked detailed questions about current health concerns, symptoms, diagnoses and treatment, medical history, family history, lifestyle, levels of physical activity, use of medication and supplements and your current diet. I will then analyse your individual needs and use the extensive evidence base for nutritional science to develop an individualised, safe and effective nutrition and lifestyle programme.
Follow-up consultations are generally scheduled after four weeks in order to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments. If it is difficult for you to get to one of the clinics, follow-up consultations can be arranged over the phone or via Skype. Further follow-ups may be required depending on each individual situation.
I passionately believe in the power of nutrition and the effect it has on every aspect of our health and wellbeing. Science-based nutritional advice is one of the most important aspects in my work and practice. I see patients privately in three central London clinics and specialise in weight management, hormonal imbalances, anti-ageing and skin conditions.
I have a passion for the emerging area of nutrigenomics and the incredible insights this offers towards unlocking the keys to our own personal health.
Armed with information that is specific to my clients’ genetic profile, I am able to develop the best dietary plan to help them meet their goals of improved health, weightloss and wellness. Adhering to those recommendations will enable my clients to optimise their nutritional status and specifically focus on preventing nutrition-related chronic diseases.
Nutritional consultation is a service that we all may require or just desire at some point of our lives, but too often the advice given is generic; I provide personalised dietary consultations by incorporating the science of nutrigenomics and using key genetic information to define how an individual client responds to their current diet, what genetic results mean in terms of exact quantities of food and dietary components, how the quantities of nutrients translate to actual diet/portion sizes/ratios on the plate.
Having graduated from the world-renowned Institute for Optimum Nutrition, I am now studying for an MSc in Nutritional Medicine at the University of Surrey. I have been awarded Post Graduate Diploma in Nutritional Medicine and currently working on my thesis.

"..I feel that my healthy eating is being used better by my body and makes it feel all worth it! I’m no longer bloated and my stomach pains have considerably reduced. I guess I needed a bit of a helping hand. I have also changed a lot of my habits and have added some of the supplements you recommended. I’m still learning of course but feel so positive about the whole thing now."

Watch Olga talking about why she became a Nutritional Therapist:
We begin to think of ageing as a disease that can be cured, or at least postponed. . . . The field of ageing is beginning to explode, because so many are so excited about the prospect of searching for – and finding – the causes of ageing, and maybe even the fountain of youth itself.
We now have access to the most reliable and accurate test to find out your biological age GLYCANAGE®. We are conducting a research project on "Effects of Lifestyle Interventions on Changes in Biological Age".
GlycanAge® is a pioneering new blood test, developed by an international team of scientific researchers who have published over 100 peer-reviewed publications in the fields of glycobiology and ageing in the last 20 years. A simple blood draw is needed to provide the sample that is analysed for the individual’s levels of glycans. Glycans are minute sugar molecules that attach to proteins molecules within the immune system, forming individual patterns. These patterns change as we age, often affected by our genes and lifestyle, including nutrition, obesity, smoking, exercise and stress. This new research project aims to enable people to test their real biological age and subsequently track how lifestyle changes may improve it.
Using reliable markers of biological ageing will help to measure the effects of lifestyle and nutritional measures/interventions and will enable to determine what types of foods and behaviours are most likely to keep us younger for longer. On the basis of these associations ‘anti-ageing’ dietary and lifestyle programmes can be developed to suit the individual.
The GlycanAge® test will be available only through registered healthcare providers from February 2017.
