The Fast Way To Happy - a TEDx talk presented by Olga in November 2019 in London.

The latest scientific breakthrough on how nutrition affects our mental health, how our gut microbiome can control how we feel and behave and what we can do to make ourselves feel happy through the way we eat.

Now available for everyone to book for £20 (complementary for clinic's clients)

Professional segmental body composition analyser is now available at the Mayfair clinic.
All clients can measure and get a print out on their:

✅ fat %

✅ muscle mass

✅ fat mass

✅ bone mass

✅ basal metabolic rate (the amount of calories necessary per day)

✅ water percentage

✅ visceral fat rating (fat around organs)

✅ metabolic / biological age

✅ weight

All of these measured and reported separately per body part: trunk, right/left leg, right/left arm.

Tanita monitors bring you fast, accurate body composition results using the latest advanced bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology first developed by Tanita in 1992. This gives you a true indicator of your inner health and, when monitored over time, can show the impact of any fitness regime or weight loss program.

So find out exactly what you are made of, set your goals and use Tanita to help you achieve your optimal fitness level and improve your health and wellbeing.

Why Measure Body Fat?

Measuring Body Fat Is Important for Determining Fitness. Weight alone is not a clear indicator of good health because it does not distinguish between pounds that come from body fat and those that come from lean body mass or muscle.

Why Measure Muscle Mass?

As your muscle mass increases, the rate at which you burn energy (calories) increases which accelerates your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and helps you reduce excess body fat levels and lose weight in a healthy way.

If you are exercising hard your muscle mass will increase and may increase your total body weight too. That’s why it’s important to monitor your measurements regularly to see the impact of your training program on your muscle mass.

Why Measure Metabolic Age?

This is calculated by comparing your basal metabolic rate (BMR) to the BMR average of your chronological age group. If your metabolic age is higher than your actual age, it’s an indication that you need to improve your metabolic rate. Increased exercise will build healthy muscle tissue, which in turn will improve your metabolic age. Monitor regularly.

The Bodhimaya Retreat at The Lanesborough Hotel's Club & Spa

"My consultation with Bodhimaya's Nutritional Therapist Olga kicks off my second morning. She is immaculately put-together and her presentation, to borrow Cornelius' turn of phrase, is excellent! She is extremely nice and extremely knowledgeable; we have a long conversation and she offers plenty of sound advice, as well as explanation about how Bodhimaya can revolutionise lives in terms of what we eat. I'd estimate that the vast majority of us don't eat as well as we could, or should, and Olga just might be the person to kick-start a genuinely life-changing sequence of events, if you do follow her advice. She's very persuasive, and has the stats and facts to explain everything."

During the retreat, Olga Hamilton meets with participants and decides on not only a meal plan for the week (which can include a voluntary juice fast), but also a meal plan for everyday life. Hamilton is highly reasonable, logical and empathetic, and suggests small changes that are easy to maintain. She promotes a philosophy of adding in more of the good (rather than constantly fixating on cutting out the bad). She also advocates a mindset of eating around your nutritional priorities, where vegetables take center stage (she’s quick to reference the Imperial College London study which suggests ten servings a day); followed by protein being the secondary focus; and essential fat being tertiary.

Depending on the participant’s diet, she doles out custom nuggets of advice that are pure gold—especially for the holiday season. “If you prepare before, there’s less damage to control afterwards,” she advocates.

Nutritional therapist Olga Hamilton says she uses the 16/8 method, which involves 16 hours of fasting followed by 8 hours of feeding.

"For example, I start my feeding window at 1pm with a large lunch and finish eating my dinner by 9pm at the latest".

Does fasting affect your mental health?

Olga says that fasting has been shown to increase rates of neurogenesis in the brain, encouraging the growth and development of new brain cells and  nerve tissues. Fasting also boosts production of BDNF protein that has been found to play a significant role in neuroplasticity, which in turn can make your brain more resilient to stress, boost memory and even improve mood".
